Freelance journalist Mohamed Ahmed Nazar went missing on October 26, 2025, while attempting to flee El-Fasher, on the day of its capture by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, according to two local journalists who are following the case who spoke to CPJ on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.
As of November 4, Nazar was found in a safer location, the two journalists said. He was among several journalists and media workers who went missing after the RSF seized the city.
In addition to his freelance work, Nazar also reports on the war and politics to over 19,000 followers on his Facebook page, according to the two local journalists and CPJ’s review of his page.
CPJ contacted the RSF through its website to request comment on Nazar’s whereabouts, in case he was in RSF custody, but did not receive a response.
