Abdelgadir Mohammed Abdelgadir is a Sudanese freelance journalist and press freedom advocate based in Khartoum. He recently authored a book on press freedom in Sudan called, “Walls of Silence: Systematic Practices to Repress Press Freedoms, Freedom of Opinion and Expression in Sudan.”

Peter Nkanga, an independent bilingual investigative journalist based in Abuja, Nigeria, is CPJ’s West Africa representative. Peter specializes in human rights and advocacy reporting.

Maria Salazar Ferro is director of CPJ’s Emergencies Department, overseeing the organization’s assistance and safety work worldwide. Elana Beiser is editorial director of the Committee to Protect Journalists. She previously worked as an editor for Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal in New York, London, Brussels, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Christopher Moessner, an intern in CPJ’s advocacy and communications department, has worked as an editor in Beirut. As a freelance writer, he has contributed to various publications in the U.S. and Middle East.

Pedro Nikken is a prominent Venezuelan lawyer, president of the International Commission of Jurists, and former president of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

Gene Roberts is a former chairman of CPJ and is the chairman of the Journalist Assistance Committee of CPJ’s board. He has taught at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland since 1991, following 18 years as the executive editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
