Istanbul police raided the homes of Timur Soykan, a columnist for the leftist daily BirGün and commentator for the online outlet Onlar TV, and fellow commentator Murat Ağırel on April 10, 2025, in connection with their corruption investigation.
The commentators were taken into custody following a complaint by a man in prison who the journalists claimed was involved with bribery, Soykan said.
The two journalists were released by a court the next day pending investigation under judicial control.
CPJ’s email requesting comment from the Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office did not receive a reply.
