Journalist Mohamed Suleiman Taher Shuaib, editor-in-chief of Salateen News Network, went missing during the October 26, 2025, capture of El-Fasher by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, two local journalists who are following the case told CPJ on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.

The journalists said that Shuaib fled the city during the RSF’s assault, but that as of November 4, he had been found in a safer location and was in contact with colleagues.

Shuaib was also a former director of the Media and Communications Department at the Supreme Council for Culture and Media in North Darfur state, the journalists said. He was among several journalists and media workers who went missing after the RSF seized the city.

CPJ contacted the RSF through its website to request comment on Shuaib’s whereabouts, in case he was in RSF custody, but did not receive a response.
