Unidentified assailants shot Dhital, chairman of Radio Tulsipur FM, as he was riding a motorcycle in Tulsipur, in Nepal’s mid-western district of Dang, about 280 miles (450 kilometers) west of Kathmandu, according to local and international media reports. The attack came in the early evening as Dhital was driving home. Hit by three gunshots to the chest, Dhital was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Dhital was a businessman, an active member of the political party Nepali Congress, and a member of the Human Rights and Peace Society. Police said the attack had been planned, but they did not disclose a motive. Dhital had not received any prior threats, according to the chief of police, Thakur Prasad Gyawali.
