Journalist Abdelmagid Haroun went missing during his attempt to flee El-Fasher on October 26, 2025, when the city was captured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, two local journalists who are following the case told CPJ on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. As of November 4, Haroun was found in a safer location, the two journalists said.

Haroun, a reporter at local independent news website Darfur 24, has had a long career reporting from El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state. He was among several journalists and media workers who went missing after the RSF seized the city.

CPJ contacted the RSF through its website to request comment on Haroun’s whereabouts, in case he was in RSF custody, but did not receive a response.
