Veteran journalist Abdelmaagid Hussein al-Ahnaf, who has had a long career reporting from El-Fasher, went missing on October 26, 2025, while attempting to flee the city on the day it was captured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, according to two local journalists who are following the case who spoke to CPJ on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.

Al-Ahnaf, who most recently contributed to El-Fasher TV and Radio and Dabanga Radio as a correspondent, previously worked for Omdurman TV and the state network Sudan TV.

The two local journalists who are following the case told CPJ that as of November 4, al-Ahnaf had been found in a safer location.

He was among several journalists and media workers who went missing after the RSF seized the city.

CPJ contacted the RSF through its website to request comment on al-Ahnaf’s whereabouts, in case he was in RSF custody, but did not receive a response.
