Danya Hajjaji is CPJ’s Patti Birch Fellow for Middle East Research, examining tech censorship in North Africa. Prior to joining CPJ, Hajjaji held internships at Reuters in Toronto and Agence France-Presse in Washington, D.C. Born and raised in Libya, she is fluent in English, French, and Arabic.

CPJ Latin America Researcher Dánae Vílchez is a Nicaraguan multimedia journalist whose work has appeared in openDemocracy, The Washington Post, Newsweek, and Pikara Magazine, among others. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Amsterdam and has been a fellow with the International Center for Journalists and the International Women’s Media Foundation.

Muthoki Mumo is CPJ’s sub-Saharan Africa representative. She is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and has a master’s in journalism and globalization from the University of Hamburg.

Madeline Earp is a consultant technology editor for CPJ. She has edited digital security and rights research for projects including five editions of Freedom House’s Freedom on the Net report, and is a former CPJ Asia researcher.

Joanna Lillis is a journalist who has been reporting from Kazakhstan since 2005. She is the author of the recently-published book Dark Shadows: Inside the Secret World of Kazakhstan.
