Journalist Assistance Program Associate Sheryl A. Mendez is an editor and photojournalist who has worked in international hot spots such as Pakistan, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. She has a master’s degree in International Affairs specializing in conflict and security from the New School for Social Research in New York.

Roxana Saberi is a journalist for Al-Jazeera America. She was working as a freelance journalist in Iran when she was detained for 100 days in 2009 on charges of espionage. Her book, Between Two Worlds: My Life and Captivity in Iran, chronicles her experiences and the stories of her fellow political prisoners in Evin Prison.

Rima Marrouch is research associate for CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa Program. She is a former U.N. reporter for the pan-Arab daily Al-Hayat.

José Barbeito, research associate for CPJ’s Americas Program, is an Argentine native. He has a bachelor’s degree in law and is pursuing a master’s degree in media studies at The New School University. Follow him on Facebook @ CPJ en Español.
