Avi Asher-Schapiro is CPJ’s Global Tech Senior Correspondent. He is a former staffer at VICE News, International Business Times, and Tribune Media, and an independent investigative reporter who has published in outlets including The Atlantic, The Intercept, and The New York Times.
Tom Gibson is CPJ’s lead advocate in Brussels, covering the EU. Before joining CPJ, Gibson managed Protection International’s Burundi and Congo desks, advocating for stronger state accountability for the protection of human rights defenders and journalists. Gibson was also part of Amnesty International’s Africa program in London and Nairobi.
Stephanie Sugars is CPJ’s North America research assistant. Her freelance work has been published in several international outlets, including Al Jazeera and Open Democracy. Sugars graduated from New York University with Masters degrees in journalism and international relations in May 2018.
Jacquelyn Iyamah joined CPJ in 2017 as its inaugural Patti Birch Gender and Media Freedom Fellow. Prior to this role, she worked at the Friends Committee on National Legislation, where she advocated for economic justice on a federal level.
