On April 26, 2025, a Houthi drone strike killed Yemeni journalist and filmmaker Musab al-Hattami and injured his brother, photographer Suhaib al-Hattami, while they were filming near the frontline of a battle between forces of the internationally recognized government and Houthi fighters in Yemen’s central Marib province.

Al-Hattami had left Yemen for Jordan to study film, later relocating to the Netherlands, where he became a citizen. He worked as a freelance filmmaker and journalist, contributing to several outlets, including Al Jazeera.

He had recently returned to Yemen with his wife to film a documentary about his parents’ hometown. Three government soldiers were also killed in the strike.

The Dutch Association of Journalists (NVJ) said it was shocked by al-Hattami’s death.

According to the  independent Dutch outlet RTL, al-Hattami’s friends said the Houthis “fired grenades at the spot where he was with his brother.”

Al-Hattami and 19 other journalists have been killed in Yemen since 2015, when a Saudi-led coalition launched airstrikes against Houthi forces after they seized the capital, Sanaa.
