Iranian security forces arrested Iranian journalist Fahimeh Nazari on November 16, 2022.

Nazari is a freelance reporter who covers local politics and history for a variety of newspapers and magazines. According to the exile-run Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA), she has a forthcoming book about Iran’s first serial killer.

She used Twitter to cover protests following the September 16 death of a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, after morality police arrested her for allegedly violating the country’s conservative dress law. Her Twitter account has since been suspended.

According to HRANA, she was arrested in her office in Tehran.

CPJ was unable to determine where the journalist is held, whether she faces charges, or the status of her health in prison.

Authorities arrested dozens of journalists in Iran as the protests over Amini’s death spread across the country. Several were later released on bail.

CPJ emailed Iran’s mission to the United Nations in late 2022 for comment on the cases of imprisoned Iranian journalists but received no response.
