Cameraman Jawad, 27, was on his way to deliver footage to
away, when a bomb attached to his car exploded, killing him instantly,
according to local press freedom groups and news reports. Security forces
initiated an investigation but made no arrests.
Jawad had worked as a journalist for seven years. He started
his career as an editor with the weekly Al-Karma
before becoming a freelance cameraman. The slain journalist was “a courageous
cameraman” distinguished for getting footage “where others had failed,” said
bureau chief for the U.S.-government funded Al-Hurra. Jawad contributed to
Al-Hurra and a number of other prominent stations, local and international,
filming sensitive topics and conflict areas.
