On November 12, 2024, Sukayna Kawtharani, a journalist with Lebanon’s Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Nour Radio, was killed in an Israeli airstrike that hit a residential building she and other displaced people were residing in.
Kawtharani was killed alongside her children in the town of Joun, 13 kilometers (8 miles) from the southern city of Sidon.
CPJ emailed the Israeli Defense Forces’ International Press Desk for comment and was asked to provide further detailed information on the strike. The IDF said it “does not intentionally target journalists, and operates solely against military targets, in accordance with international law, while taking feasible measures to mitigate harm to civilians, including journalists.”
