Joseph, who worked for Radio Lumière, was killed by a uniformed officer, who shot him in the head near a roadblock in Port-au-Prince. A witness said that police fired at the car after Joseph attempted to drive away to avoid a traffic jam caused by the roadblock. He was killed instantly. Police had set up checkpoints and were searching civilians for arms after the murders of several soldiers. Prime Minister Marc Bazin’s office told CPJ that the government and army demanded an inquiry into Joseph’s killing. At the end of the year, no arrests had been made, and there was no evidence that an investigation had been conducted.
