Abd el- Seed, Khartoum bureau chief for the London- based Arabic- language daily Al- Sharq al Awsat, was arrested on January 28, 1993, after security forces raided the paper’s offices. It is feared that El- Seed, a Sudanese national, is being held in a the “ghost house,” a clandestine detention center where prisoners often are tortured.
