On April 1, 2025, Mohammed al-Bardaweel, who works for the Hamas-affiliated radio station Voice of Al-Aqsa, was killed in an Israeli strike alongside his family, in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army confirmed in a statement that Bardaweel was the target of the strike, claiming he played a key “role in producing Hamas propaganda footage of the hostages”. The army did not claim that Bardaweel was armed and provided no evidence of him being a combatant.
His brother-in-law, Osama al-Bardaweel, told CPJ that the strike that killed Mohammed and his entire family directly targeted their home in “the Emirati neighborhood of Khan Yunis,” a house that was already partially destroyed by an older strike.
