On December 22, 2023, Mohamed Khalifeh, broadcast director at the Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa TV channel was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his home in Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, along with his wife and three of his children.
Khalifeh was previously counted as a media worker in CPJ’s database; his status was changed to journalist after a rigorous verification process in June 2026 that included desk research and speaking to two credible sources from his outlet, which confirmed that he was the broadcast director of the channel at the time of his killing.
