On November 7, 2023, Mohamed Abu Hassira, a driver for the Palestinian Authority-run WAFA news agency, was killed in an Israeli strike on his home near the fishermen harbour area in Gaza City along with 42 family members.
Abu Hassira was previously counted as a journalist in CPJ’s database; his status was changed to media worker after a rigorous verification process in June 2026 that included desk research and talking to two credible sources from his outlet who confirmed that he was a driver for the outlet.
