On March 12, 2026, camera and drone operator Mohamad Shehab was killed, alongside his daughter, in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his apartment complex in Aramoun, Aley, near Beirut.
BBC cited that the Israeli army issued a statement saying it had targeted a Hezbollah official. However, Mohammed’s brother told the BBC that the family was asleep and had received no warning, stressing that “international law prohibits harming civilians and requires their protection.”
According to documents issued by Lebanese Syndicate of Press Photographers and reviewed by CPJ, Shehab was actively involved in media work, particularly in news-related production and technical support, and contributed to the broader newsgathering and dissemination ecosystem.
CPJ requested comment from the Israeli Defense Forces’ International Press Desk on whether Shehab was the target of the strike but had not received a response at the time of publication.
