Masoud Salimi, an Iranian journalist and former director of Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency bureau in Qom, was killed on March 6, 2026, during U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on the Iranian city of Qom.

Salimi was a media activist in Iran’s Qom province and previously served as the head of the Qom office of Tasnim News Agency. He was known locally for his work in journalism and media activities in the province.

According to Tasnim News Agency, Salimi was killed during what the outlet described as a U.S.-Israeli attack on the city. “Masoud Salimi, former director of Tasnim News Agency’s office in Qom and a media activist in the province, attained martyrdom in the recent American-Zionist attack on the city of Qom,” the outlet reported.

Iranian reports said the attack occurred on Friday afternoon on Kargar Street in Qom, where Salimi and two other people were killed.

A farewell ceremony for Salimi’s body was held at his home in Qom.

CPJ emailed U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) seeking comment. It remains unclear whether U.S. or Israeli forces carried out the strike that killed Salimi.
