Affana, a correspondent for Al-Quds newspaper, was arrested in his home in Gaza on January 2, 1992 and taken to Gaza central prison. That same day he was issued an expulsion order. His appeal to the High Court of Justice is still pending. Although the Israeli government alleges that Affana is a key activist in the Fatah branch of the PLO, it has not officially charged him.
