On March 28, 2026, Marwan Harzallah, a technician at Palestinian Authority-affiliated Palestine TV, died in Israel’s Megiddo Prison, according to information from Palestinian officials obtained by the family. He was arrested on January 8, 2026, at his home in the town of Zawata, Nablus, northern occupied West Bank, and held in administrative detention, without being sentenced.

Fathi Harzallah, his nephew, told CPJ that the Nablus Governorate and the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs informed the family that his uncle Marwan had died inside prison. He said he does not know the cause of death, and his body remains held by the IDF.He told CPJ that his uncle did not suffer from any illnesses, but one of his legs had been amputated in 1995 after an injury by the IDF during a protest. In an interview with the New Arab, Fathi Harzallah said he suspected the death was due to “systematic torture and medical neglect policies” in Israeli prisons.

In response to CPJ’s email requesting comment, the Israel Prison Services (IPS) said it does “not comment on individual cases or provide details regarding specific detainees.” It added that “any incident involving the death of a prisoner is handled in accordance with established procedures and examined by the competent authorities.”
