Hong Kong journalist and bookseller Leticia Wong Man-huen was arrested by Hong Kong national security police on June 24, 2026, on suspicion of selling seditious publications and receiving funds from foreign political organizations. She was released on bail 48 hours later pending further investigation.
Wong was arrested with her husband at Hunter Bookstore in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong. Police alleged that the bookstore, which Wong owns, displayed items with seditious intent and sold publications that incited hatred against the Hong Kong government, judiciary, and law enforcement agencies. Police also said that Wong received remittances from foreign political organizations in violation of the Organized and Serious Crimes Ordinance.
Police said they seized a number of publications as evidence during the operation, including a copy of “The Troublemaker,” a biography of former Apple Daily publisher Jimmy Lai, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for national security offenses in February 2026.
A former political reporter for Sing Tao Daily, Wong is the editor-in-chief of Status Quo, a magazine published by Hunter Bookstore featuring interviews, essays, and reporting on Hong Kong society and culture. Wong has written extensively on political and social issues, including an interview with singer and activist Denise Ho following the 2021 national security crackdown on Stand News.
The Hong Kong government did not immediately respond to CPJ’s emailed request for comment about the case.
