Şahin, the former editor in chief of the now-defunct pro-Kurdish daily Özgür Gündem, was arrested and accused of being a member of an outlawed organization. There are also several cases pending against him stemming from his days as the daily’s editor. He is being held in Umraniye Prison in Istanbul.
