Ochoa, an editor and publisher in Guerrero state, was shot
after leaving a birthday party for a local politician, local reporters told
CPJ. Ochoa owned El Sol de la Costa,
a small-circulation weekly based in Ayutla de los Libres.
María
Carmen Castro, Ochoa’s widow, told local reporters that her husband had recently
received cell phone threats. In March, police arrested a suspect who had been
involved in a traffic dispute with Ochoa, said Albertico Guinto Sierra, acting
state attorney general of Guerrero.
