Iyad Matar, an administrative employee working in the archives department at the Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa TV, was killed on November 1, 2023 alongside his mother in an Israeli airstrike on his home in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip.
Matar was previously counted as a journalist in CPJ’s database; his status was changed to media worker after a rigorous verification process in June 2026 that included desk research and talking to two credible sources from his outlet who confirmed that he was an archive administrative employee for the outlet.
