Ishraqah Abdulrahman, a presenter and host at Nyala State Radio, was detained by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on February 28, 2026, in Nyala, South Darfur, along with several other women, including journalists, and transferred to Korea prison in the city. Abdulrahman was released on September 6, 2026.
Abdulrahman was detained for more than a week without explanation, formal charges, or court hearing, according to news reports, and a local journalist who spoke to CPJ on condition of anonymity, citing fear of reprisal.
According to a member of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, who spoke to CPJ on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, women recently released from the detention facility told the journalists’ families that Abdulrahman had lost significant weight and was suffering from fever and other untreated health complications due to lack of medical care.
CPJ contacted the RSF through its website to request comment on Abdulrahman’s detention but did not receive a response.
