On February 7, 2025, Israeli soldiers arrested Iran’s Tasnim News Agency correspondent Hasan Abu Hasan during a raid on his home in Yamun village, west of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, his father Emad told CPJ. He said the journalist was taken to Salem military camp, then to Ofer prison, and later to Ktzi'ot Prison where he is now detained.
Abu Hasan was not charged and placed under administrative detention. His detention was renewed for six months twice -- first on August 5, 2025, and again on December 4, 2025, his father said.
Emad told CPJ that a lawyer visited his son in January 2026 and reported that had experienced medical neglect in Israeli detention facilities, contracting scabies, developing boils on his skin and infections in his mouth. The account is consistent with testimonies in CPJ’s special report on the experiences of Palestinian journalists in Israeli prisons.
CPJ emailed the Israeli Prison Services for comment on Abu Hasan’s detention but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
