Ersöz, the editor-in-chief of Özgür Gündem, was arrested on January 12, 1994, along with other staff members during a raid on the headquarters of the paper in Istanbul. She is being charged with aiding the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). However, while all the others charged in the case were released, the court has denied pleas to release her. Her trial has not yet started.
