The editor-in-chief of The Nairobi Law Monthly, Imanyara was destained in March 1991 and charged with “falsely and maliciously publishing a seditious publication containing a seditious editorial entitled ‘Tribalism,’ promoting feelings of ill-will or hostility between different sections of the population” and failing to file returns for the magazine. Imanyara was also charged withs edition in 1990 and withs everal technical offenses since 1988; all are currently pending. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison for each count of sedition. He suffers from acute migraine headaches and there are concerns for his health.
