On April 8, 2026, Lebanese presenter and reporter Ghada Dayekh, who worked for the local privately-owned Sawt Al-Farah station, was killed in an Israeli air strike on her home in southern Lebanon’s Tyre.
Alwan Sharafeddine, the station’s director, told CPJ that the strike hit her apartment building, destroying it. Dayekh had worked with the station since its launch in the 1980s and had been on air for 37 years.
In response to CPJ’s email requesting comment, the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) International Press Desk said“precautions are taken in planning and in the execution of the strike to minimize harm to civilians,” adding that Dayekh was not the target of the strike.
