On April 8, 2026, Lebanese presenter and reporter Ghada Dayekh, who worked for the local privately-owned Sawt Al-Farah station, was killed in an Israeli air strike on her home in southern Lebanon’s Tyre.

Alwan Sharafeddine, the station’s director, told CPJ that the strike hit her apartment building, destroying it. Dayekh had worked with the station since its launch in the 1980s and had been on air for 37 years.

CPJ’s email to the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) International Press Desk for requesting comment on Dayekh’s killing did not receive a response at the time of publication.
