Journalist Farouq Eleyat, 44, was arrested on January 17, 2026, after IDF soldiers raided his home in Deir Abu Da’if, east of Jenin in the northern West Bank.
His wife, Sabreen Aljada, told CPJ that Israeli soldiers remained in the house for about an hour before detaining him.
His brother, Mujahed Eleyat, stated that Farouq was transferred to the Israeli military’s Salem Detention Center, west of Jenin, where he was issued a six-month administrative detention order starting on January 29, 2026. He told CPJ that he remained held at the facility.
Eleyat was previously arrested in 2016 for 21 days, in relation to his work with Palestine Today TV.
CPJ emailed the IDF International Press Desk for justification for his arrest and requested comment but did not immediately receive a reply.
