Palestinian photographer Fadi Marwan Al-Meghari was killed on May 26, 2026, when an Israeli drone struck an area near his home in the eastern part of Al-Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
Al-Meghari documented the war, destruction, displacement, and humanitarian conditions in Gaza, regularly publishing photos and videos to an audience of around 100,000 followers on Instagram.
Al-Meghari’s father told CPJ that his son had been asleep at home when he woke up to the sound of gunfire. Al-Meghari and his cousin stepped outside the front of the house, near the so-called “yellow line”, where Israeli forces were positioned. According to Al-Meghari’s father, an Israeli drone fired a missile at the area, killing them both.
CPJ emailed the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) International Press Desk for comment. The press desk requested Al-Meghari’s identity card number, however CPJ does not collect this information as part of its research methodology. The IDF did not provide further comment before publication.
