Israeli forces arrested freelance Palestinian journalist Bushra Taweel on February 5, 2026, at the Ein Sinya military checkpoint near Ramallah, in the West Bank. Her mother, Montaha, told CPJ that the family was able to locate her detention at Moscovia Detention Center in Jerusalem, via a lawyer.
On February 12, 2026, Taweel received a four-month administrative detention order from an Israeli court.
CPJ emailed the Israel Defense Forces for comment, and the IDF’s International Press Desk responded that Taweel was “identified as a suspect due to involvement in terrorist activity” and that her case was transferred to Israel’s prison service.
