Bilal Rajab, a 27-year-old Palestinian journalist and a camera operator for the Islamic Jihad-affiliated Al-Quds Al-Youm TV, was killed on November 1, 2024, in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza City, according to the Beirut-based press freedom group SKeyes and news reports.

“Our colleague Bilal was with a group of citizens at 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon at the Samer Junction in central Gaza City when Israeli aircraft targeted them, killing Bilal immediately,” Al-Quds Al-Youm TV executive director Mohammed Abu Shawish told CPJ.

“Bilal’s main job at the channel was coordination, banners, and public relations, but from the first month he started working as a cameraman in Gaza City,” he added.

CPJ was not able to find contacts for Rajab’s family.

CPJ emailed the Israel Defense Forces’ North America Media Desk inquiring if it knew civilians and journalists were in the area it bombed and whether Rajab was targeted for his work, but didn’t immediately receive a response.
