On November 18, 2023, Amro Salah Abu Hayah, the deputy director of the Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa TV channel, was killed in a strike on Gaza City.
Abu Hayah was previously counted as a media worker in CPJ’s database; his status was changed to journalist after a rigorous verification process in June 2026 with desk research and two credible sources from his outlet confirmed that he was the deputy director of the outlet at the time of his killing.
