Egyptian journalist Amr Ayaad, who writes under the name Amr Shnin, was arrested in October 2022.
Ayaad is a reporter for regional independent news website Arab Ofok, according to a report by local independent news website Darb, and a local journalist who is following the case and spoke to CPJ on the condition of anonymity, citing fear of reprisal.
On October 9, state security officers arrested Ayaad from his home in Giza, and brought him to an unknown location, according to those sources.
CPJ has been unable to determine what, if any, charges, the journalist is facing, where he is held, or the status of his health in custody.
The Ministry of Interior, which oversees the police, the prison system, and the prosecutor general’s office, did not answer CPJ’s emails requesting comment on Shnin’s case in November 2022.
