On April 24, 2024, an Israeli strike targeted the home of freelance journalist Amna Hamid in Al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza City, killing her and her child.
Her husband, writer Saed Hassunah, told CPJ that he believes his wife was targeted as a result of what he described as an incitement campaign launched by Israel’s Channel 14, linking her to the Female Branch of the Islamic Jihad in Gaza, a civilian faction that does not bear arms. He also told CPJ that Hamid called him 10 minutes before her death, suspecting that she will be targeted, citing unusual movement outside her home. She said she was preparing to take her six children and leave the location.
CPJ emailed the IDF International Press Desk for comment, and was asked to provide Hamid’s identification number, information the organization does not disclose.
