Journalist Amal Shamaly, a Qatar Radio correspondent, was killed on March 9, 2026, in an Israeli strike on the tents of displaced Palestinians in Sawahra, west of the village of Az Zawayda, in central Gaza, alongside two others, according to news reports.
When asked for comment, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) told CPJ in an email that it “did not conduct a strike in the given location and date.”
The attack came amid escalating strikes on Gaza, despite a ceasefire, since the launch of a new round of violence between Israel, the U.S., and Iran.
