On October 4, 2025, Sudanese journalist Alnor Suleiman Alnor died from injuries sustained when his home in the besieged city in El-Fasher, North Darfur, was shelled by a drone operated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to news reports. A local journalist who is following the case confirmed the information to CPJ on the condition of anonymity, citing fear of reprisal.

Alnor, 38, was taken to the Saudi Hospital, the only functioning medical facility in El-Fasher, but he died the following day from his wounds. The local journalist said Alnor was one of the city’s most prominent media voices and he believed the RSF deliberately targeted his home.

Alnor worked as a correspondent and presenter for local radio station Al-Salam in Al-Malha in North Darfur State, before moving to El-Fasher, where he was working as a presenter and editor for El-Fasher radio station. The local journalist said he was also media director for the North Darfur state governor’s office, information also reported by Al-Jazeera.

Since the outbreak of war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF in April 2023, CPJ has documented the killing of at least 15 journalists and media workers across Sudan. CPJ has also reported on the conditions journalists in El-Fasher face as they remain trapped under RSF siege, with little access to food, medicine, or communication. Some have faced sexual violence and reprisals for their reporting.

CPJ contacted the RSF through its website to request comment on al-Nor's death but did not receive a response.
