Volosov, the editor of the newspaper Orientir, is serving a two and a half year sentence on charges of libel and slander. In November 1993, he was sentenced to four years in prison with an additional four years suspended in connection with an article in which he accused a Public Prosecutor of corruption. After Volosov appealed the court’s decision in January 1994, his sentence was reduced to two and a half years.
