Swaidan, a reporter for Kifah al-Umal al-Ishtiraki, was arrested in January 1982 on suspicion of membership in the Ba’ath Party’s February 23 movement. His trial began in the summer of 1993. The sentence given in the case was such that he should have been set free by now, but his release has not been confirmed.
