On July 24, 2025, Israeli warplanes killed Adam Abu Harbid, 34, a cameraman for Al-Quds Al-Youm TV and a private broadcast and production company Fact Media, when they struck the tent where he was staying in the Al-Yarmouk area of western Gaza City. He was killed alongside his sister’s husband, while several members of his family were wounded.

His father, photojournalist Zakaria Abu Harbid, told CPJ: “After our home in Beit Hanoun was destroyed, the family fled to the Al-Yarmouk area in western Gaza City. There were three tents side by side — for Adam, his sister, and his brother. At around 10:30 p.m., Israeli warplanes struck the tents, killing Adam and my daughter’s husband and injuring Adam’s wife, his three children, my son, my daughter, and several other relatives.”

Mohammed Al Shana, head of news and correspondents at Al-Quds Al-Youm TV — a channel affiliated with the Islamic Jihad militant group — told CPJ: “Adam worked for a long time as the head of the photography department. Later, he asked to step down from the management role and focus on camerawork and technical tasks at the channel.”

Mahmoud Abu al-Qumsan, a broadcast engineer at Fact Media, confirmed that Adam also worked as a cameraman for the company.

“Adam was a professional cameraman who documented images with precision and meaning for Fact Media,” he said.

CPJ emailed the Israel Defense Forces’ North America Media Desk seeking comment on Abu Harbid’s killing, but no response was received.
