A journalist who worked for the Gaza Press Office, Ghabin was administratively detained in August 1990. During his detention, he is said to have been assaulted. He was reportedly questioned about membership in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the distribution of leaflets. He has denied involvement in these activities. Eighteen days after he was detained, Ghabin was ordered held for another 70 days. Subsequently, his detention was extended for another 60 days, possibly because of complaints he made about his treatment in detention.
