On May 31, 2025, satellite broadcast engineer Yousef Al-Nakhala, 26, was killed when Israeli warplanes struck his central Gaza City home
His brother, Ahmed Al-Nakhala, told CPJ that the Israeli military ordered residents of their neighborhood to evacuate.
“Yousef did not expect that our building would be targeted,” he said. “But at 2 p.m., Israeli warplanes bombed our six-story home while Yousef was on the third floor. He was killed immediately.”
Moussa Shhadeh, director of Watania Media Agency, confirmed to CPJ that Al-Nakhala worked for the privately owned production company, which provides satellite transmission services for regional channels, at the time of his death.
CPJ emailed the Israel Defense Forces’ North America Media Desk for comment but received no response.
