On May 31, 2025, Israeli warplanes struck the home of satellite broadcast engineer Yousef Al-Nakhala, 26, killing him instantly in central Gaza City. Al-Nakhala worked for Al-Watania Media Agency, a privately owned production and broadcast-services company that provides satellite transmission and television production for regional channels.

His brother, Ahmed Al-Nakhala, told CPJ that the Israeli military had ordered residents of their neighborhood in central Gaza City to evacuate. “Yousef did not expect that our building would be targeted,” he said. “But at 2 p.m., Israeli warplanes bombed our six-story home while Yousef was on the third floor. He was killed immediately.”

Moussa Shhadeh, director of Al-Watania Media Agency, confirmed to CPJ that Al-Nakhala had been employed as a satellite broadcast engineer at the time of his death.

CPJ contacted the Israel Defense Forces’ media office regarding Al-Nakhala’s killing but received no response.
