Aladdin Ali Mohamed, a program director at local state radio station Wad Madani, died in an armed attack by the paramilitary group the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on June 22, 2024, in Asir, a town in southern Al Jazirah state, according to news reports and a statement by the Swiss rights group Committee for Justice.

CPJ was unable to determine further details about Mohamed’s killing or whether he was targeted for his work. Two local journalists following the case told CPJ on the condition of anonymity, citing fear of reprisal, that they believed Mohamed might have been targeted for his journalism.

Since the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF started in mid-April 2023, many journalists have been killed, arrested, injured, displaced, and assaulted

CPJ’s emails to the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF requesting comment about Mohamed’s death did not receive any replies.
