Atiq, former Khartoum correspondent for Al-Dustour weekly and a journalist with Al- Hadaf, underground organ of the Ba’ath Party; and al-Hussein, a reporter for Al- Hadaf, were detained in May 1992. They are being held without charge in ghost houses. Late in 1992 Atiq’s family reported that they had heard he was being severely tortured.
