Mario, a correspondent for Radio Antilles Internationale in Petit Goave, was arrested in November 1991 in Port-au-Prince by several men in civilian clothing and one uniformed security officer. He was transferred to Petit Goave, where he was charged with setting fire to a police precinct and a courthouse and illegally possessing firearms. Mario was severely beaten.
